SILVERFORM JEWELLERY
We made our Silverform Jewellery here in Australia between the mid 1970's to about mid 1980's.
Only Australian Gemstones were used.
The making of our Silverform products involves painting the areas of the stone that we want to be Silver with a special type of Silver based paint.
We then immerse the item in an electroplating tank.
But, rather than a flash plating, which can literally be rubbed off (like Gold Plating sometimes wear off cheap watches etc..), we let the plating process go for many hours, sometimes days, to allow the Silver to build itself up until it becomes a thick layer which will not wear off in a lifetime.
Because Silverform is made from Pure Silver (999), it is much more resistant to oxidization than Sterling Silver (925).
It is also far stronger than silver items that have been made by the casting process, which is the process by which most jewellery is made.
Even fabricated Sterling Silver sheets and wires, components used for making handmade jewellery, are not as strong.
As the bail, the loop for the chain, cannot be created in a plating tank, a Sterling Silver (925) bail is attached to the stone before placing it in the tank.
Once the plating process starts, the bail gets covered with Pure Silver, just like the rest of the Silver painted areas of the pendant.
Silverform distinguishes itself from other somewhat similar products in that we do NOT use copper to build up the metal thickness and then give it a flash of silver or gold plating.
Or like some; just painted with a thick layer of electrically conductive paint, then given a silver or gold flash plating...
No Silver at all but nevertheless advertised and sold as Silver!
Our metal is a solid (999) Pure Silver right through, except for the (925) Sterling Silver bail.
We also gold plated on top of the silver plating and this was done by the wire plating process which ensures best quality plating.
