THE DARKER ONES ARE FROM UNDER INCANDESCENT TYPE LIGHT.
The total weight of the 10 triplets is 268.33 Carats.
Each stone measure approximately 30mm x 22mm x 5.3mm.
Stress lines, cracks, can develop in Opal, either due to Nature or simply due to the unusually large size of the Opal Triplets.
It may be hard to believe, but Opal can contain up to 10% water...
When the water evaporate near the surface of the Opal, stress is created; somewhat like when a clay pan dries up from the heat of the sun and cracks occurs.
Opal Triplets have a protective glass dome and a supporting back with the thin slice of Opal sandwiched in between the two.
As a consequence any cracks, like in these Opals, does not affect the over all strength of the Opal Triplet.
The size of the stones, 1 3/16" x 7/8", along with the patterns in the stones and that there are 10 pieces and all matching, makes this a unique item that simply isn't to be found anywhere; they are simply irreplaceable.
