53531.0 - 4 lots with 3 pieces each of Natural Australian Oval Cut Cabochon Chrysoprase Size from 35 x 21 mm to 46 mm x 33mm Large but thin

These Gemstones are from the oldest commercial Chrysoprase mine in Australia; Maryborough in the State of Queensland.

Chrysoprase used to be referred to as "Australian Jade", which is a misnomer.

Chrysoprase may have the somewhat appearance of Green Jade, but it is actually part of the Chalcedony family of Gemstones and not related to Jadeite, at all.

Chrysoprase is very tough and durable; it will stand up to quite heavy wear.

These pieces are quite large, but also quite thin, so they are not bulky and very heavy.

The colour range from very pale and nearly transparent green to a quite dark, even opaque green.

Please Note:

1) Inclusions that are normally not readily visible to the naked eye may become visible when viewing enlarged photos.

2) Larger inclusions were intentionally left in the stones to give them a more natural, earth mined look, giving character to the stones.

The photo gives a good representation of the stone, but please consider that some colours may appear slightly different depending on the type of computer screen the stones are being viewed on.
