These Australian Cabochon Cut Chrysoprase are cut from rough mined in the 1960's and 1970's when the oldest commercial Chrysoprase mine in Australia, Maryborough in the State of Queensland, produced it's best quality.
Chrysoprase used to be referred to as "Australian Jade", which is a misnomer.
Chrysoprase may have the somewhat appearance of Green Jade, but it is actually part of the Chalcedony family of Gemstones and not related to Jadeite, at all.
Chrysoprase is very tough and durable; it will stand up to quite heavy wear.
The colour range from very pale and nearly transparent green to a quite dark, even opaque green.
